Tradition
How we became who we are
Over 140 years of company history.
Five generations.
With passion since 1880
The word tradition comes from Latin and can best be translated as tradition. But before you start nodding off from boredom like in school, our fast-paced company history will cheer you up. Because a lot has happened in the more than 140 years since Valentin Fraas founded the company. Today, the two heads of this long-standing tradition are Alexander and Andreas Schmidt, the fifth generation of the family to run the company. The secret of their success? The location on the one hand and the history on the other.
Wüstenselbitz looks back on 200 years of textile tradition
Weavers have been producing textiles on hand looms here since before industrialization. This knowledge has been developed and passed on over the centuries. When Valentin Fraas founded the company V. Fraas in 1880, he had just ten employees. Through hard work, V. Fraas grew, and by the turn of the century, the company already employed around 100 people.
The company quickly grew beyond its Franconian home and developed into an international producer in 1982: Branches were established in New York, Toronto, London and Hong Kong. This was later followed by sales offices in the Czech Republic, Russia, Poland, Japan and Korea. Because we have recognized something crucial: Tradition can only survive if new knowledge is added and we never close our minds to the new.
5th generation
The thirst for knowledge and wanderlust of the two bosses Alexander and Andreas found an ideal breeding ground in the international company. As a logical consequence of this progress, the first FRAAS store in Germany opened in Berlin in 2005, at the same time as the company celebrated its 125th anniversary. The following year, the new fraas.com website and online store were on the agenda.
Today, FRAAS relies on the perfect mix of proven quality standards, trends, sustainable production and fresh ideas: Scarves are simply our world.
